To round out the final new moon of 2016, my brother and I decided to head out to the Trona Pinnacles in the Mojave Desert. I had never been there and was a little worried since we arrived after sunset and had to do some off-roading in order to reach our destination. Luckily, my Prius was able to handle the washboard dirt road and after a couple of miles, we were greeted by the majestic Trona Pinnacles. We scouted the area for about an hour to find the best place to set up camp and view the Milky Way. We were stoked to have clear skies and little to no light pollution, as this gave us a chance to play with a few light stencils and electric candles. Just as we were heading to bed, we were greeted by one, then two, then three desert kit foxes! It was an amazing experience and this has become my new favorite location for astrophotography in the desert!
